Patricia Roane Straube I and another woman match as U5a1b1d1 with a genetic distance of 0 and we are both direct descendants in the maternal line from “gateway ancestor”, Eva Seidelmann, born 23 Feb 1684/1685 in Illenschwang, Bavaria who married Andreas Gaar, 23 Feb 1710/1711, in Dinkelsbuehl, Bavaria. They immigrated to Philadelphia in 1732 and later moved to what is known as the Second Germanna Colony in Madison County, Virginia. I am a descendant of her daughter Rosina Gaar who married Theobald Crisler and she is a descendant of Elizabeth Barbara Gaar who married Michael Blankenbaker. We match another woman who has a completely different history. She is a descendant of "Germans from Russia" who Catherine the Great settled in the Volga region beginning in 1764 and who later immigrated to the US in the late 19th century. We didn't know each other before the match. Just last month we got another match and the man just posted his family tree. It didn't go all the way back but I was able to figure out that he is also a descendant of Eva Seidelmann through Elizabeth Barbara Gaar and Michael Blankenbaker. There is a 19th century Gaar/ Gar / Garr genealogy, available at Google Books
