Just sent off a request to the Mennonite Historical Society of BC. Certainly not a place I would ever imagine would have info about my family! From what I am gathering so far, my father and his parents, in order to try and get in to Germany during WWII (which they did), they had to "apply" to enter Germany. This describes some of why the records were created: The Galizien German Descendants 1939 Resettlement records have been extracted from documents stored in the Berlin Document Center which were captured by the US government at the end of World War II. These records were created by ethnic Germans applying to resettle in German controlled areas from former German areas/villages of the USSR (Russia), Latvia, Estonia, Poland (including Galicia), Yugoslavia, Ukraine, Bulgaria, and France in 1939. At that time Russia and Germany had divided Poland roughly along the Narev, Vistula and San rivers as part of the Ribbentrop-Molotov Pact and many ethnic Germans either did not want to live in the Russian controlled territories or were forced to immigrate to Germany.
The Berlin Document Center records contain much more than just these resettlement records but these Einwandererzentralstelle (EWZ) (literally Immigration Center) records contain very valuable information about German families from 1939 to 1945. The EWZ records are divided into
E/G Kartei: Basic index cards arranged alphabetically by family surname
Stamblätter: Family pedigrees arranged by case number (Note: case numbers are only found in the E/G Kartei)
Anträge: Applications for German citizenship. They are arranged by country name and then by family surname. They are only publically available at the US National Archives. They can be purchased online or they can only be viewed in person at the Collage Park, Maryland National Archives facility.
Microfilms of the E/G Kartei and Stammblatter records are currently available at local Family History Centers (FHC) of the LDS church and in US National Archives Microfilm Publication A3342. To give you some idea of what information is contained in EWZ records here are some examples of EWZ documents courtesy of BlackSeaGR.org. Further information about the EWZ records can be found at Dave Obee's volynia.com Page and BlackSeaGR's EWZ Q&A page and as Dave Obee says about these records "it appears that each one has some files that are not included in the other sets. It pays to check all three".
And, of course in all things genealogy relate, not all the records I am interested are in one place! Oh well - keeps things interesting!

Wow - the Mennonite Historical Society is awesome. I sent off a request a few hours ago, giving them the reference number for the information I was looking for, and they already sent me the files! There are quite a few pages, but this is the one that "proves" that my grandmother was 50% German (which is news to me). But heck - it got her, my dad and my grandfather in to Germany during WWII - which probably saved their lives. - Dang - FB won't let me post it - too big of a file.

Einwandererkartei - індекс іммігрантів
Einwandererzentralstelle - Іммігранти Центральний офіс
(Immigrant Control Office) of migrants from Wartheland-Poland and Lithuania who were resettled in Germany, Poland, Czechoslovakia and Austria. Includes names, dates and birthplaces of the emigrant, his parents, grandparents, and children; residence, occupation, and religion. Often includes a photograph of the immigrant. Arranged by case file number. Indexed in the E/G Kartei by name and case file number. Many of the case file numbers were not filmed in this set. A more complete filming of the pedigrees (Stammblätter) is now available and listed in the catalog.

the easiest and most affordable place to order EWZ is from: www.mhsbc.com/genealogy.html you can email them with the Names and EWZ numbers your looking for and they will respond with the cost and if the records are available. Last time I have ordered EWZ it was over a year ago and the lookup was $5 plus 10 cents per page.I recieved 9 pages EWZ and total was $5.90 They will email you a link with the records. Right now, because they have many requests, they are limiting you to 5 requests a week
If the first site does not have the records your looking for try www.grhs.org/index.html you also email them with your request and they will give you a price for the search. I can't remember how much their charge was but it was not very high.--------------------
the familysearch EWZ are:
The EWZ 57 series contains index cards (emigration and health) and covers various regions and
the 58 series contains family group sheets and covers various regions.
Series is compiled and grouped by EWZ number. The best way to search them if you find the EWZ on blackseagr.org or on the www.odessa3.org/search.html website.
very helpful are : www.volhynia.com/res-ewz57.html and www.volhynia.com/res-ewz58.html the FHL numbers are the films from familysearch
If you do a search on the odessa3.org site - you have to look for "Data Category" it comes preset on Besserabian records but you have to change it to WAR RECORDS.
also - my explanation might be a little confusing - but maybe this does a better job www.blackseagr.org/research/ewz- … benefit_me
and one more last one www.odessa3.org/collections/war/
